Who would use a self inflating mattress?

A self inflating mattress can be used by anyone, but is most popular amongst those who like to travel.

It’s a good idea to talk to an expert or shop assistant so that you are able to find a model that is suitable for your needs. For instance, some mattresses can be stacked for improved pack support, or you could have a double-sized mattress for some extra sleeping room.

What features to look for when buying a self inflating mattress?

There are a few categories of features to be aware of when buying an inflatable mattress.

Size

These camping mats come in a range of sizes. If you’re in a couple or looking for some extra sleeping room, a double mattress may be the best option for you. Alternatively, stackable or attachable mattresses may be better for families as they provide added flexibility.

Style

Air matts come in a range of colours and styles, so be sure to pick one that you like the look of. Kids often like to pick their own colour, so it’s easy to see which mat belongs to which person!

Inflation-style

Some mats come with a rechargeable pump, others expect you to blow it up, some require a foot or hand pump, and others inflate at the switch of a valve! Pick whichever style you’re most comfortable with.

Price

Camping mattresses hugely vary in price – some models cost as little as £15 whilst others cost several hundreds. Be sure to buy a mattress that you are able to finance.

Material

Mattresses are made from a variety of materials. Look out for qualities such as brushed fabrics for softness, and water and wear resistant materials for durability.

Filling

Pay attention to the type of filling used in the mattress. Memory foam is often the most comfortable but can be more expensive.

Thickness

The thickness of camping mattresses varies significantly. Generally, the thicker the mattress, the more comfortable it will be. However, this can influence both the price and portability of these mattresses.

Weight

If you’re planning to carry this mattress around in your rucksack, make sure that you take note of the weight of the roll mat. Some mattresses weigh as little as 0.5kg whilst others can weigh over 5kg, the latter of which would have a huge impact on the weight of your luggage!

What does a cheap self inflating mattress cost?

The cheapest mattress on our list – and one of the cheapest on the market – is the trail outdoor leisure single inflatable mattress.

This mattress costs just £15, so should be suitable for almost any budget! Fortunately, the price does not require that sacrifice of comfort or reliability, as trail outdoor is a reputable brand and this particular mattress has excellent ratings!

The best self inflating mattress on our list is the ISOPHO Self Inflating Camping Mattress. This mattress is currently on sale from £50 down to £30. It’s easy to inflate, made with high quality materials, and ergonomically designed!
